Hobby: Painting Street Bases
Share
Back at the start of the month, Warlorder Tom wrote a fantastic article on making urban bases. Now he’s back with a guide on painting them!
We’re heading back to the home-made, Milliput-paved streets of Stalingrad. Having spent considerable time moulding my own bases, I wanted to find a quick and effective way of painting them that would show off the time and effort spent.
This paint scheme uses a couple of simple techniques and just three paints to produce excellent street bases in a very short space of time. With a little extra effort, you can make some extra bits and pieces to breathe life into the base!
Materials
To paint your street bases, you’ll need:
- Army Painter Uniform Grey
- Army Painter Stone Golem
- Army Painter Brainmatter Beige
- Army Painter Dark Tone Ink
- Battlefields & Basing Building Rubble
Step 1: Basecoat
Paint the whole base with Uniform Grey.
Step 2: Drybrush
Lightly drybrush the whole base with Stone Golem.
Step 3: Wash
Wash the base the Dark Tone ink.
Step 4: 2nd Drybrush
Lightly drybrush the base with Brainmatter Beige, focussing on the edges of the paving slabs.
Step 5: Details
Use the Building Rubble to add some additional details to your base. Scraps of sprue, MDF offcuts and PVA-soaked paper painted with Brainmatter Beige and washed with Strong Tone to further decorate the base.
